Sullivan County, NY - Whether or not a casino is built in Sullivan County, Route 17 from Orange County through Sullivan should be widened now, said Mid-Hudson Pattern for Progress President Jonathan Drapkin.
There are those who say when the casino comes, Route 17 will be a traffic nightmare.
Drapkin said work on widening the four-lane divided highway should start now. He notes that on any given Friday and Sunday afternoon, traffic is already is a mess.
"Solutions to that problem should be addressed today regardless of whether there ever is a casino in Sullivan County, and so while people will look toward the casino as being something that will exacerbate the problem, the problem already exists," he said.
Developers of the casino, meanwhile, say the facility would not put undue traffic pressures on the roadways. [Mid-Hudson News]
